Who is the course designed for?

The course lasts 100 minutes: this includes 90 minutes of demos / walkthroughs, followed by 10 minutes Q&A.

On signing-up and where appropriate, participants will be emailed materials related to the course prior to the course as well as, post-course, a completed Power BI desktop report(s).

Additionally, participants will be provided with a contact email address for 48-hour post-course attendance support, plus links to Optimum’s training videos and other relevant materials.

Pre-requisites:

Participants should have Excel skills including creating formulas, formatting worksheets and summarising data with PivotTables. Ideally, participants will have downloaded Power BI Desktop.

How long does the course last?

100 minutes (90 minutes demos / walkthroughs plus 10 minutes Q&A).

What is Power BI Desktop: Create Power BI models and reports; the Power BI Desktop user interface (UI); Microsoft UI components; Power BI Desktop components; Power BI Desktop views.

Connecting to data: Connecting to data; adding data sources; Excel worksheets / books; Access databases; text files; ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) basics.

Cleaning data: Transform and shape data; various settings panes; change field names and data types; merge / split columns; calculated columns; custom measures.

Creating visualisations: How to represent data; the Visualisation and Fields panes; adding charts; chart formatting; multi-page reports.
