Trainer Blog: Dynamics 365 project team training

The engagement usually starts with a telephone call to discuss the project team training requirement with the prospective client.

Project team training takes place very early in the implementation phase and over the years, I’ve delivered training to various clients in this situation. This involves me familiarising the users with the application, which is especially important if they’ve not yet had the opportunity to view or demo the system.

The delegates themselves vary from business-to-business, but are usually a mix of SMEs (subject matter experts), super users, c-suite executives, stakeholders and business analysts from across the organisation.

The initial call enables us to find out exactly what the client is looking to get out of the training session. This usually includes questions like “How do I navigate around the new tool?” or “What does the P2P (Purchase to Pay) process look like in this system?” Then, we work with the client to find a suitable training environment, before delivering the training at a location and time which suits them best.

Last week I completed Dynamics 365 for Finance & Operations project team training for a financial organisation in West London and this was typical of the sort of training we normally provide. The session spent the first part of the day looking at navigation, filtering and general system configuration and the rest of the day looking at the General Ledger, as specified in the initial client call.

The most enjoyable aspect of these sessions is that you can never know which direction the sessions will go in, as the content is reactive to the delegates’ questions. With a room full of people eager to learn what their new system is capable of, the questions are always wide-ranging. Sometimes the queries go beyond the scope of the training and then we decide as a group how far to pursue the answers – sometimes it’s a question for the implementation partner to consider and sometimes it’s a company process, but we always look to find solutions.
