Energy & Utilities ERP Training

We partner with energy and utility organisations to provide customised ERP training and change solutions.

Tailored energy and utilities ERP user adoption programmes

Having supported numerous energy and utilities organisations across the globe, Optimum has the experience to provide you with an unparalleled end-user training programme for any business system. This includes all ERP systems, covering workstreams such as finance, HR/payroll, customer services, energy management (EMS) and enterprise asset management (EAM).

Your end-user training programme must be targeted so the right content is being trained to the right audiences. This fast-moving sector where the end users are both customer facing and office based brings with it a unique set of challenges when training.

Firstly, there is typically significant differences in the level of user ability. Secondly, depending on how old the existing processes have been in place, there will be resistance to change. Finally, the timing of the training must be flexible and not hinder business in any way.

Partnering with Proserv, the global energy technology provider

“Optimum’s lesson plans and documentation were very good and we are still using those same materials as we continue the rollout. They will provide us with a firm basis to build from as we develop our Microsoft Dynamics ERP system and add enhancements.”

Steve Matthew, Vice President of IT

Energy and utilities ERP systems we regularly support

We can train on any business system, whether it’s off-the-shelf, a customised equivalent or an ERP system built specifically for your business. Here is a selection of systems on which we regularly support.

Typical energy and utilities audiences we support

As with any industry it’s important to select an ERP training consultancy who are experienced in working with energy user groups. Having partnered with numerous energy and utility organisations across the globe, we’re perfectly placed to do this. Here are a few of the user groups we typically support during energy and utilities projects.

Based on site, this user community needs to receive their training in one learning event. They may not have time to attend multiple training sessions and may see IT training as something which takes them away from their project obligations. The training must be aligned to a typical project with consolidation activities which mirror how the audience will use the ERP solution from go live.

If there is a high number of engineers then the most cost-effective option is for a member of the project team to cascade the training locally to them.

Roles include Project Managers, Consultants, Project Engineers etc.

It is key that the training programme for these audiences closely links with sales initiatives and emphasises the customer experience. All consolidation activities need to be based on typical customer interactions.

Training for these audiences will be varied, possibly involving shorter hands-on classroom sessions for the Telesales teams.

Roles include Telesales, Digital Managers, Marketing Managers etc.

A high number of the users in this workstream will be based onsite which poses challenges with scheduling training which must be both timely and pertinent.

Electing champions or super users (for example, by contract or property) would facilitate a cascade training approach which would not only provide training locally but also support for each site through the first weeks of go live.

Roles include Contract Managers, Surveyors, Estates Teams etc.

There are different audiences in this workstream with different training requirements. The designer must not see the training programme as a disruption to their day job and it should be provided as modular classroom style sessions so they are not taken out of the business for too long.

The engineer/technician is typically field based so training on the mobile technology must be creative in its delivery. For example, this could be delivered pre or post shift or be in the form of a talking work instruction (video) which can be deployed for just-in-time training.

Roles include Designers, Engineers, Technicians etc.

Timing for the training of finance users is paramount and cannot disrupt their end of month/quarter commitments. Your training programme should train on a build which will be familiar to the audience when they go live, introducing walkthroughs using your COA, approval hierarchy and data.

Classroom training is popular with these audiences, however, if the audiences are overseas, modular delivery across WebEx/Skype can be delivered in shorter durations.

Roles include Management Accountants, Finance Assistants, Treasurers etc.

HR works closely with the departmental administrators as well as recruitment. Their core system users are normally the HR administrators who will require hands-on training so they are competent for go live.

Users such as HR business partners and line manager approvers will not require classroom training but a short session on the core benefits, their role in the process and the functionality they are required to use.

Roles include HR Administrators, HR Business Partners, Line Managers etc.
